Plumbing repair in Houston starts with one question: is the water or gas still moving? If it is, stop it first. If it is not, the symptom usually tells you which repair you need, and this page sorts them so you can call with the right problem in hand.
Which plumbing repair do you need?
Match the symptom to the repair, and start there. If you see two rows at once, call and describe both, because they are often the same problem.
| What you notice | Likely repair | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Bill jumped, or the meter moves with everything off | Hidden supply leak | Leak detection |
| Warm spot or wet floor with no fixture nearby | Pipe under the foundation | Slab leak repair |
| Water spraying or pouring from a wall or ceiling | Failed pipe | Burst pipe repair |
| Tank refilling on its own, or a wet floor at the base | Toilet parts or seal | Toilet repair |
| Dripping spout, or a shower that swings hot | Worn cartridge or valve | Faucet and fixture repair |
| Water standing in a garage or under a raised floor | Drainage and pumping | Sump pump service |
| New gas appliance, or a failed gas test | Gas piping | Gas line service |
| Rusty water, weak pressure, repeat leaks | Worn-out pipe system | Whole house repiping |
Slow drains and sewage smells belong to a different set of repairs. Go to drain and sewer service for those.

Is this plumbing repair urgent, or can it wait?
Gas and moving water come first. Most other problems can hold until a booked visit.
- Gas smell: leave the house on foot, then call 911 and the gas utility once you are outside. A plumber comes later.
- Water that keeps running: get to the main shut-off valve, then shut off power to anything the water is reaching if you can do it safely.
- Sewage inside: stop using water and keep people away from it.
- A drip you can isolate: close the valve under the fixture, and it can wait until morning.
Our phone hours are Sunday through Thursday from 7 AM until 8 PM, Friday from 7 AM until 6 PM, with Saturday closed. When the phones are closed, the main valve is your first tool, so find it and test it this week.
Water still moving? Close the main valve, then call.

How Houston houses break differently
Three local conditions decide where repairs land. Expansive clay swells and shrinks with the rain, and the slab and any pipe under it move too. Many slab homes run supply lines through the attic, where a February freeze can reach them and a pinhole leak can sit unnoticed above the drywall. Age does the rest, because galvanized and polybutylene systems are reaching the end of their service life.
Small leaks matter more than they look. The EPA says household leaks can waste more than 9,300 gallons a year in an average home, so a drip you can hear is worth a visit.

Those conditions are why home plumbing repair here depends on diagnosis more than speed with a wrench. A ceiling stain in the hallway may trace back to a fitting in the attic, and a warm floor may mean a slab leak or just a hot line running nearby.
Every residential plumbing repair we handle
Each page below goes deep on one repair, including how it is found, the options, and what changes the price.

Leak Detection and Repair
Prove the leak at the meter, trace it to one spot, and open as little of the house as the job allows.

Burst Pipe Repair
Stop the water first. Then we find every split, replace the failed pipe, and test the line under pressure.

Toilet Repair and Installation
Fix the part that failed, or set a new toilet on a sound flange with a fresh seal.

Faucet and Fixture Repair
Replace the worn part when the fixture is worth keeping, and fit a new one properly when it is not.

Sump Pump Service
Find out where the water comes from first, then decide whether a pump is the right answer at all.

Gas Line Repair and Installation
If you smell gas, leave first. For repairs and new lines, the job ends with a line that holds pressure on a gauge.

Whole House Repiping
One planned replacement in place of a string of emergency repairs, in the pipe that suits your house.

Slab Leak Repair
Find the leak under your foundation first, then choose between a spot repair and a reroute.

What a plumbing contractor should give you
A good plumbing contractor gives you the cause, the options and the price, in that order. On a repair visit, expect:
- A look at the problem before any price is discussed
- A straight answer on what failed and what caused it
- A clear, upfront quote for the work you choose
- The repair itself, tested before anyone leaves
- A note on anything else worth watching
Ask for the license number before work begins. Every plumbing license in Texas shows up in the public lookup kept by the state's plumbing board, formally named the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Any homeowner can search it. Houston's plumbing code is the 2021 UPC as amended by the City, in effect since January 1, 2024, per the Houston Permitting Center.
What do plumbing repairs cost in Houston?
The price follows access, parts and time, so nobody can price a repair well by phone. HomeYou, as one market reference, put plumbing repairs at $96 to $695 across 46,715 projects, with a typical range of $281 to $404, using data through May 2026. Those are market figures, not our prices.
Three things move a repair above that range: pipe hidden behind tile or under the slab, older materials that do not mate to new parts, and damage that has spread past the original failure. A slow leak caught early is nearly always the cheaper call.

Plumbing Repair questions
Should I repair this fixture or pipe, or replace it?
Repair when the failure is one worn part in otherwise sound equipment. Replace when the same item keeps failing, parts are gone, or the pipe around it is corroded. On a Houston house with a second or third pipe leak, stop pricing single repairs and compare them against repiping before spending more.
Can I fix plumbing myself in my own home?
Texas law lets a property owner do plumbing work in their own homestead without a plumbing license. That exemption does not cover a rental or a house you are flipping, and City permit rules can still apply. Gas lines and anything inside the slab are poor first projects. Swapping a flapper is a fair one.
How do I tell whether a leak is mine or the City's?
Close the main shut-off valve at the house and watch the meter. If the meter stops, the leak is past your valve and inside the home. If water surfaces on the street side of the meter, report it to Houston 311. City leak reports reached 13,911 in 2023, according to ABC13, citing Houston Public Works.
What should I have ready when I call?
Have the symptom, where it shows up, when it started, and what the water meter is doing with everything off. Note the age of the house and any past leaks. Photos of stains or fittings help. With that, the phone conversation can sort a small fixture repair from a hidden leak.
Not sure which repair you need? Describe the symptom and start there.
